Special thanks to the Toledo City Paper for featuring THE MODS on the front page of their recent April 24-30 issue! The issue contains a great article by staff artist Sue Macphee Gray on garage-band music titled, "IT CAME FROM THE GARAGE." A single copy of The Mods 1966 45 RPM recording (original label shown above), sold on an Ebay auction on May 2, 2005 for the astounding price of $504.00 (USD) to a bidder from the United Kingdom. We sold a lot of these in 1966 at our concerts for the price of $1.00 (one dollar) per record. Since then, in late 2007 one dozen mint copies were discovered by someone in Toledo, Ohio (our old hometown). The records were put up for auction by Frogtown books on Ebay and auctioned off one record at a time. After all records were sold on Ebay and the dust settled the records had fetched and average price of between $500 to $550 per record; and ending up netting over six thousand USA dollars to the owner of the auction. Hearing that makes me wish I that I had bought a box of them (30 records to a box in 1966) and then I could have stashed them in a safe place until now and had my own auction.
I am glad that some mint copies turned up of The Mods 45-RPM recording and I am also glad to see that The Mods finally received some recognition for our Peck Records 1966 release. Sadly my brother, Terry Smith; never found out about the reissues of The Mods two songs on Crypt Records in the 1980's and 1990's. Terry Smith was the co-writer of the both songs along with me (Larry Smith) and he was also the lead singer and lead guitarist for The Mods and founding member of the band. Terry passed awaydue to sepsis in November of 1999 after his colon was punctured during a colonoscopy at a Toledo, Ohio area hospital. Terry delivered the amazing lead vocals on the Peck Records recording and he is sadly missed by family and friends. RIP TERRY August 11, 1947 / November 20, 1999.

I have placed two (1 minute plus) Demo sound clips from our 1966 Peck Records 45-RPM on this website. These soundfiles are longer than the 30 second demo clips on iTunes and Amazon MP3. The Mods demo sound clips on this webpage are in Real Audio format. If you don't have Real Audio installed on your computer, you won't be able to listen to the sound files. If you don't have the latest Real Audio player you can download a Free Copy by clicking here ------>>> http://www.real.com/products/player
If you have legally purchased digital MP3 copies of The Mods music at iTunes or Amazon.com or any other online store, DO NOT SHARE OUR MP3 MUSIC FILES. I am almost sure that if anyone wants to steal our music by illegal downloads on Pirate sites and Torrents sites it can be done; that however cheats The Mods out of song writing royalties for each song that is illegally downloaded. The Mods do not support illegal downloads of our music. That is the same as walking into a record store and stealing a CD without paying at the register. If you do enjoy our music please buy it, don't steal it.

This is an announcement from Larry Smith of "The Mods".... I think that the only unreleased reel to reel of The Mods from IMPACT RECORDS TAPES finally turned up. This recording was recorded under the name "THEY" with Impact Records. The sad thing I have to report is that the reel to reel tape was found in storage in an attic and has been there for the last 37 years; since 1966! The tape on the reel to reel has deteroriated very badly from exposure to heat and cold exposure while in the attic. There are a couple of songs that may be salvagable, but don't expect anything like the "PECK 45" from 1966. I will be forwarding what was on the tape to Tim Warren at Crypt Records, but I won't know if he can salvage any material from the tape until I hear from him. I will be mailing the tape to Tim in the next couple of days. I will post further on this website about this find and what may become of anything on the tape. I am also forwarding additional tapes recorded at the MODS 1989 reunion to Tim Warren at Crypt Records. There may be some new releases from the group yet. I just talked to Tim in the past couple of days and told him about the 1989 reunion tapes and the "found Impact Records tape." Tim and I are in talks now about a proposal to reissue the MODS original Peck 45-RPM as a new 45-RPM reissue on CRYPT RECORDS label, complete with a picture sleeve and liner notes about the group. More details on that reissue after I hear back from Tim at CRYPT Records.

The remaining members of "The Mods" would like to say, "The release of our material on the 1982 compilation known as THE CHOSEN FEW Vol. 1 (LP), and THE CHOSEN FEW Vols. 1 & 2 (CD) were never authorized releases of our music by anyone in the group and we consider these unauthorized releases of our music to be nothing more than a rip-off by an unscrupulous bootlegger."
THE MODS do consider it an honor that the music they made as a group in the 1960's lives on due to the authorized compilations put out by Tim Warren at CRYPT RECORDS. Many thanks to Tim Warren from CRYPT RECORDS for preserving THE MODS music and for re-issuing our music again to our old fans; and to the many new fans of garage music who had never heard of "THE MODS" from Toledo, Ohio.

This website was designed by former member of THE MODS (Larry Smith) as a lasting tribute to not only "THE MODS" of Toledo, Ohio; but as a special tribute to his older brother, Terry Smith. Terry was the lead singer and the backbone of the of The Mods. Terry possessed a powerful rock voice and he is the singer that you hear on the soundclips from the 45 RPM recording from 1966. Sadly, Terry passed away in November of 1999, at the age of 52. For any fans that have questions or desire more information about THE MODS, I can be contacted by the e-mail address below, and I will try to answer your inquiries ASAP!
Sincerely yours, Larry Smith
